It starts with an idea that you can’t escape, and time that you don’t have, but somehow find. The stories haunt you, the characters become real, and the worlds you create, you live in…you become a part of your story world. I’ve been asked now, several times by people close to me, why am I so obsessive when I start writing? And my answer is always the same. My wife can easily answer that question for me. Whether it’s writing music, poetry, or stories, or even creating art, which by the way, I’m also obsessive about, ie: tattoos, sculpting, painting, airbrushing, engraving, bone carving, etc, etc, and motorcycle building. I consider that itself an art form. But in the end, when it gets in my head, I have to get it out. I am goal driven. I want to see the end I quess.
And so what I’m telling you is this, if you get into writing, or are an aspiring author, poet, or song writer, remember to don’t just jump in and start writing without having some idea of a direction that the end is in. Granted, sometimes during the course of a good story, it may deviate somewhat, but all things must come to an end…eventually. Maybe.
The other thing I can tell you, is find yourself a space that is YOURS, and only yours to write in, where you can bury yourself in your world, whatever it may be. I love my little writing desk, which doubles as a recording booth for vocals when I need it, an art station when I need that. My microphone is on an arm so it’s moveable, my art tablets and computers are on a slide out platform below the main desk so handy when I need them, and I have pens, pencils, markers, scissors, and everything I need in one little corner. If you want to create…
Find your corner……….
